Water & Energy consumption

Water & Energy consumption

Water consumption

  • Water of drinking water quality is to be used for drinking water only, not for flushing toilets, watering gardens.  That resource is too valuable;

  • Massive campaign to be launched to educate people in reducing water consumption (see education section);

  • Private swimming pools attached to home properties cause an undue burden on the water resources and are to be phased out by 2025.  The water in current swimming pools is to be used for other purposes, not to be led drain away. (Convert to a “biopool” full of life);

  • Public swimming pools should be renovated and built;

  • The watering of gardens is to be phased out by 2025.  Gardens should be of such a nature they are “populated” with vegetation that can stand the climatic conditions of summer and winter;

  • In “Temperate Climates (Köppen)” it is not necessary to shower every day. Every third day as a general rule is also OK. Our body is perfectly capable of taking care of itself;

  • Showering can be done in three phases: make yourself wet, close the tap, soap yourself, open tap again and rinse yourself instead of letting the shower run for 30 minutes

Energy consumption

Total maximum target consumption of energy for each Earth citizen is a function of the climate zone one lives in.

  • Total energy consumption in the Marine West Coast climate (= most part of Western Europe influenced by the gulf stream - Köppen) should be less than 10.000 kWh/person/year. This includes heating/cooling of house, electricity for appliances, heating of water. Other climate zones to be evaluated.

  • The temperatures in homes need to be preset:

    • If the outside temperature is less than 18°C (64F), temperature will be a maximum of 18°C (64F) and we will wear a sweater;

    • If the outside temperature is in between 18°C (64F) and 26°C (78F) temperature will be that given temperature with an adjusted humidity between 40 and 60%;

    • If the outside temperature is more than 26°C (78F) temperature will be a minimum of 26°C  (78F) and we put on some light clothing.   Humidity level between 40 and 60%.

  • The installation of clothing dryers (used in private homes to dry washed clothes) is to be phased out by 2025. Dryers are to be phased out of the houses by 2030;

  • 100% of the energy required by industry, hospitals and other medical services, the public transport network in all its forms should be provided at all times.

  • Given that green energy sources are weather dependent (wind & sun) and should thus insufficient energy be produced due to changing weather conditions, households might be deprived of energy now and again.
