Forests
Tropical rain forests: “the lungs of the Earth” are to become “international territory” with immediate effect and be put under international supervision and control;
The deforestation of large areas of forests be it tropical or rain forests or other for the production of (tropical) wood, is halted as of now;
The deforestation of large areas forests for the production of bio-fuels, palm oil, soja is halted as of now;
An exit scenario with a maximum of 5 years for current farmers using deforested areas after which the tropical forest are allowed to reclaim “lost territory”. Lost territory is the area deforested as of 1960 onwards;
Farmers of which land is reclaimed for reforestation are to be given the necessary training / funding to start other business and ways of making a living (ecotourism, small scale local biofarming);
Europe will make good for the massive deforestation since the early middle ages by increasing its surface of forest from a global 47% to 70% by 2030. Each European region shall have at least 50% of its surface covered by forests/trees/park. A “region” can be larger but not less than 2500 sq. km;
50% of all deforested areas in the last 7 decades need to be given back to nature - start a large worldwide reforestation program with stewardship of new forest by local population;
The destruction of forest in order to generate farmlands is to be phased immediately.
